The project entailed a full external refurbishment of this listed building which sits in the grounds of St Columb’s Cathedral.The school is an attractive red brick building with sandstone dressings and retains many of its original internal features which will were sympathetically restored, respecting the building’s history, layout and form.  

Work started with internal demolitions and strip out and taking off the roof slates. 

The roof structure was repaired with repair and replacement of roof timbers, new roof felt and slate, roof lead, guttering and downpipes. The ‘eyebrow’ dormers were completely rebuilt with lead covering and new windows.

The external brickwork was completely repointed, with stone and brick repair and new stone copings where the originals could not be saved. New external doors were installed and all windows were overhauled – windows in good condition were reglazed, with some new window sashes into existing openings.

Extensive damp proof work included injection damp proof course to the walls and damp treatment to existing timber. The existing ground floor was taken up, and the floor level lowered.

External works included the repair of stone ramps and handrails and new paving.
